    • Observation One is Inherency

Women in Yemen are faced with the worst discrimination in the world. Daily women in Yemen are prone to violent acts and are literally valued at half the worth of their male counterparts.
      Amnesty International 25 November 2009
      http://www.amnesty.org/en/news-and-updates/report/yemeni-women-face-violence-and-discrimination-20091125
Women in Yemen face systemic discrimination… home and in society at large.

Yemen ranks the lowest in terms of women’s status.
      Kristoff and WuDunn 09
(Nicholas D. and Sheryl, Pulitzer Prize winners in journalism Kristof is a New York Times Op-Ed columnist and WuDunn is a former Times correspondent, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, pgs. 149-150)
Hinduism has similar problems, not to… Muslim. Yemen was in last place.

Though the status of women throughout Yemen is extremely low, Women’s organizations have been able to raise women’s statuses through a focus on women’s political involvement and education.
      Amnesty International 25 November 2009
      http://www.amnesty.org/en/news-and-updates/report/yemeni-women-face-violence-and-discrimination-20091125
Despite this, recent years have seen… equal access to their human rights.

Thus the plan The United States Federal Government should promote political capacity building throughout Yemen by funding women’s organizations.

      Observation Two Harms

Harm One is Violence Against Women

Violence against women in Yemen is extremely prevelant taking many devastating forms, and affect women of all ages including young girls.
The United Nations Country Assessment of Violence Against Women in Yemen
      August 2, 2010
      http://www.un.org/womenwatch/ianwge/taskforces/vaw/Country_Assessment_on_Violence_against_Women_August_2_2010.pdf
Yemen is a traditional society where…for such discriminating acts and behaviors.

The first impact is dehumanization through child marriages

Child marriages and forced marriages are high in Yemen. Women in Yemen are not protected by the law as marital rape and domestic violence, the lack of interest in these girls lives also lead to high maternal mortality rates.
      Human Rights Watch 11
(Human Rights Watch, “World Report 2011: Yemen”, http://www.hrw.org/world-report-2011/yemen, accessed 7/28/11, AP)
Child marriages and forced marriages remain… percent of women deliver at home

Child marriage causes many hindrances to women’s development, including increase in maternal morality, sexual and physical abuse, and psychological devastation for young girls. It is simply a human rights violation of the worst kind.
Arun Kumar  (History honours (B.A.) IIndYR from Delhi College of Art and Commerce, at University of Delhi.) No date, Human Rights Defense, http://www.humanrightsdefence.org/child-marriage-as-an-human-rights-issue.html
Present time, child marriage is a… child but also on the society

Dehumanization is the largest impact in this round, we must value each and every  human life, ignoring violence against women will lead to the zero-point of the Holocaust. This means you must vote Affirmative in order to end the dehumanization of life.
DILLON 99 (MICHAEL DILLON, UNIVERSITY OF LANCASTER, “ANOTHER JUSTICE” POLITICAL THEORY VOL. 27, NO. 2, APRILL 1999, JSTOR)
Otherness is born(e) within the self… of the human way of being.

      The second impact is patriarchy

      Violence against women perpetuates patriarchy
Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence
      No date, http://www.apiidv.org/violence/patriarchy-power.php
Violence against women maintains the structures… whether they are abusive or not.
Patriarchy is the root cause of war, which in turn recreates patriarchy
      Workman 96 (Thom, Poli Sci @ U of New Brunswick, YCISS Paper no. 31, p. 7, January 1996, http://www.yorku.ca/yciss/publications/OP31-Workman.pdf)IM
The practices of war emerge within… of sexuality and war is seamless.

Patriarchy is the root cause of all proliferation, environmental destruction, domestic violence, and war
Warren and Cady 94 (Karen J, Duane L, feminists and authors, Hypatia, “Feminism and Peace: Seeing connections,” pg 16-17)
Much of the current "unmanageability" of… in regional, national, and global contexts.

      Observation Three Is Solvency

Women’s participation is essential for good democratic governance throughout Yemen.
      Valentine M. Moghadam
Professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies, Purdue University
5 March 2011 Lecture at Boston University
      http://www.nidemocracy.org/en/publications/engendering-democracy-women-and-the-mass-social-protests-in-the-middle-east-and-north-africa/
There is a strong relationship between… the democratic transition in the region.

US has power to bring Democracy to Yemen
Tawakkol Karmen June 2011, “Yemen’s Unfinished   Revolution” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/19/opinion/19karman.html?pagewanted=all
AFTER more than five months of… society and encouraging development and stability.

Erika and I understand the differences between our lives and the lives of many women throughout the world. Though we don’t believe halting violence and dehumanization means that we are supporting any one political ideology, through our discourse we hope to help better the lives of all humans throughout the world, not push one ideology on women throughout the world who have different experences.
      Kristoff and WuDunn 09
Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn in 2009 (Pulitzer Prize winners in journalism, Kristof is a New York Times Op-Ed columnist and WuDunn is a former Times correspondent), Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, pgs. xxi-xxii
It’s true that there are many… open your heart and join in.

In order to fully succeed in any sort of liberation, there needs to be a gendered approach to the discussion of democracy. Without this sort of approach there will never be adequate information or scholarship on women in order for the liberation for women to occur throughout the world.
Barbara Unmüßig, Heinrich Böll Foundation, April 15, 2011
