      “First As Tragedy…Then As Farce”

      1. In the 1940s Eastern Europe lay in ruins.  Economies were so bad so bad that Germany’s unofficial currency had become Lucky Strike cigarettes.  U.S. foreign policy witnessed the birth of the Cold War and the subsequent strategy to ‘contain’ communism through economic and political bribery.  The name of this ideological warfare is ‘democracy assistance.’

Mitchell 9, Lincoln A. Uncertain Democracy. Philadelphia, PA: University of Pennsylvania Press, 2009. [Lincoln Mitchell is an Associate at Columbia University's Harriman Institute. From 2006-2009, he was the Arnold A. Saltzman Assistant Professor in the Practice of International Politics at Columbia University.]

“The rhetoric of making the world safe for democracy … assistance and its implementation.”

      2. Current U.S. ‘democracy assistance’ to Egypt follows the same script.  It uses anti-Islamic rhetoric to slant and to rig elections in order to favor American hegemonic interests. It promotes ‘freedom of choice’ with the unwritten rule that the ‘right choice’ should be made. And unless we intervene it will maintain its policy that the Egyptian people are fit for democracy as long as they do not disturb the Western markets.

Majdian 11, Behzad. “A Glorified Military Coup in Egypt:  An Aborted Revolution or the Genesis of a Genuine Revolution?” Monthly Review, (14 February 2011) <o/l: http://mrzine.monthlyreview.org/2011/majdian140211.html> [Majdian is a frequent contributor to the Monthly Review, a publication in New York City during the cold war hysteria and featured articles submitted by prominent scholars such as Einstein. Monthly Review has always been independent of any political organization.]

“Millions of people in Egypt and all over the Middle East … dealings with the Palestinian Authority.”

      3. The anti-radical, anti-Islamic rhetoric that U.S. democracy assistance relies upon is the recycled script of McCarthy-era anti-communism.  This is a dangerous position to take since it openly maintains that the pursuit of a more egalitarian society is the ultimate totalitarian temptation.  This is pure propaganda, and it whitewashes the history of destruction bound to the great capitalist project.

Badiou 10, Alain. The Communist Hypothesis. New York: Verso Publishing, 2010. Pg. 1-8. [French philosopher, professor at European Graduate School, formerly chair of Philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure, University of Paris.]

“The mid-1970s saw the beginnings of the ebb the ‘red decade’ ushered in … order to ensure the survival of the powerful.”

      4. The presupposition that the Egyptian people cannot determine their own destiny is racist.  The Egyptian protests are living proof of the existence of universality.

Ramadan, Tariq, and Slavoj Žižek 11. Interview with Imran Garda on “Riz Khan,” Al Jazeera English Television (3 February 2011). o/l: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29NffzEh2b0. Peer reviewed: 625 likes, 6 dislikes. [Žižek is a senior researcher at the University of Ljubljana, and a Professor of Philosophy at the European Graduate School. Ramadan is a Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies and Oriental Studies at Oxford.]

“SŽ: Well of course he wouldn’t say this openly… dictators forgetting the Palestinians on the ground.”

      5. In solidarity with the Egyptian people, we advocate that:

The United States Federal Government should consolidate all fiscal year 2012 foreign assistance appropriated for Egypt in order to fund political party development programs for the Egyptian Communist Party. We’ll clarify normal means where necessary.

      6. Political party development is key—parties determine the framework for political mobilization both inside and outside electoral-centered processes.

USAID, 99. “USAID Political Party Development Assistance.” Eds. Ronald Shaiko. Center for Democracy and Governance Technical Publication Series (April 1999). Print. [Dr. Shaiko received his Ph.D. in political science from Syracuse University and is an associate professor of government at American University.]

“Due to the salience of political party development … political processes assistance in Section III.”

      7. The core of the Egyptian revolution is the ECP, to fund them is to fund the revolution

The New American, 11. “Fanning the Flames of Revolution in Egypt” Written by Christian Gomez (01 Feb 2011), o/l: http://thenewamerican.com/world-mainmenu-26/africa-mainmenu-27/6137-fanning-the-flames-of-revolution-in-egypt.

“The role of the ECP in the events in Egypt is revealed … have joined in pledging their solidarity.”

      8. The U.S. government should reverse its failed Cold War strategy and support the E.C.P.

Nasuti, 11, Matthew. “U.S. May Regret Crushing the Communist Party in Egypt.” The Kabul Press (1 February 2011). o/l: http://kabulpress.org/my/spip.php?article53290.  [Nasuti was a U.S. Air Force Captain with Air Force Logistics Command. He helped oversee the construction of Comiso Air Station in Sicily. He served as a legal advisor on contract fraud to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. Mr. Nasuti is recognized and hired by the U.S. State Department as an expert in nation-state reconstruction.]

“The American Government has a history of acting … Edward Landsdale and John Paul Vann. It needs to start listening now.”

      9. The role of the ballot is to endorse the best policy option, which is determined by the extent to which that policy affirms the communist Idea.  If human-animals are more than their base instincts, it is because we have the capacity to be moral creatures with collective interests.  The communist Idea is an ethical principle that holds that all human beings have an equal right to participate in determining their collective destiny.

Badiou, 10 Alain. “The Incorruptable,” The Meaning of Sarkozy. London: Verso Publishing, 2010. P. 97-103. [French philosopher, professor at European Graduate School, formerly chair of Philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure, University of Paris.]

“Since the French Revolution and its gradually universal echo… private existence, then the human animal is not worth a cent.”

      10. Supporting the egalitarian democratic movements of Egypt is the very definition of affirming the communist Idea.

Badiou, 10, Alain. “The Incorruptable,” The Meaning of Sarkozy. London: Verso Publishing, 2010. P. 89-95. [French philosopher, professor at European Graduate School, formerly chair of Philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure, University of Paris.]

“In his radical critique of the democratic regime …  a new use of the word ‘virtue’.”
